FAQ

Making the decision to begin therapy can be a difficult one. You may have had many experiences of succeeding through difficult situations before and feel confused why you are struggling now. Or perhaps you have always thought that therapy was for “other people”. Therapy is used in many different ways for many different situations. My goal is to work collaboratively with you to help you overcome the struggles you are facing.

My approach to therapy is a combination Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps change negative thought patterns, and Interpersonal Therapy, which helps clients discover patterns in their life that have kept them from realizing their full potential. I believe in working collaboratively with each client in order to help them achieve their own personal goals for therapy.

I am a Preferred Provider for Aetna PPO. Otherwise, I do not deal directly with insurance companies. My services are reimbursable for out-of-network benefits by most insurance plans. Payment for individual, couple, and family sessions is due at the time of service, and I accept cash, checks, and credit cards. If requested, I will gladly generate a receipt, or “superbill” for you to submit to your carrier.

Yes! In fact, the majority of the work I do is done with individuals.

Keeping confidentiality is of the upmost importance to me. In my opinion, if a client does not feel that therapy is a “safe space”, then the benefits of therapy cannot be fully realized. The relationship between therapist and client is protected by law and cannot be disclosed without written consent. Confidentiality, and it’s exceptions, will be fully discussed in our first session.

Initial evaluations are 60 minutes in length, and subsequent sessions are 45 minutes. Clients are typically seen once per week, with more frequent sessions as needed. I offer opportunities for extended sessions as well, as needed.

In some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action. Working with your medical doctor can help you determine what’s best for you. It is well established that the long-term solution to emotional struggles cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. I believe you can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness.

24 hours notice is required for cancelled or rescheduled appointments in order to prevent being charged. Missed appointments and “no-shows” are charged in full. Of course, emergencies and illness are considered.
